Paso Fino - Medium - Adult - Female - Horse - Miss Honey
Description
Honey is an inspiring case indeed! She was placed here by the State of Maine Animal Welfare Program in December of 2006, unwanted and unloved. As a young mare, she was beaten in the face, an act of extreme cruelty that resulted in permanent blindness to her left eye. She endured children throwing rocks and apples at her because they thought it was fun to watch her run into things. And if that wasn't enough, she was also ridden by a woman who was far to large to ride her and expected her to behave even though she had not been properly trained. But even after all of this misery, she is still people friendly and has a tremendous potential to be the kind of horse that everyone wants in their barn; athletic, smart, and tons of fun!!! Just so you don't think being blind in one eye is disabling, let us tell you that Honey doesn't think so!!! Honey has been worked under saddle and is bold and smart! She is doing fabulously since starting with our trainer in May of 2008. Since then, she has been shown, earning ribbons in 13 out of 14 classes entered in her first outing, including trail class, WP, WE, halter, showmanship, barrels and other games classes, not to mention she jumped a course for the first time, never having been trained to do so! There is nothing she won't try as long as she is asked kindly. Did we mention that she is gaited, too?!? She has a deliciously comfortable 4-beat gait and can cover some ground with it. This is a super all-around horse for an intermediate or advanced rider who wants to have fun! Update: Honey was adopted in August but came back because the owner felt overwhelmed by her. As a reminder, Honey is not a beginner horse and really needs a confident rider to help get her to a place where she will be consistent under saddle.
